About Barbara Bechtel midwife
Over the course of her career, Barbara Bechtel has performed as a knowledgeable midwife as well as a skilled administrator. She most recently served as interim director of The Brooklyn Birthing Center in New York, where she created procedural improvements and policies that ensured compliance with the American Association of Birth Centers (ABBC) accreditation requirements.
Barbara Bechtel holds a certificate in nurse-midwifery from the Frontier School of Midwifery and Family Nursing, as well as a master and a bachelor of science in nursing from Ball State University. Licensed and board certified as a midwife, she has provided expert consultation to the Centers for Disease Control and the Indiana State Legislature, where she contributed to the creation of birth center licensing legislation. Ms. Bechtel has given interviews with a number of print and television media outlets on such topics as women's health and birthing center issues, and her academic work on perinatal matters appears in two peer-reviewed scientific journals. |
